These are the pupils examining an old train token that enabled trains to use the train line from Athenry to Tuam. The token acted like a key and was passed on by hand to the next train. It was essential to have this token in order to travel along the line and being in posession of it without permission was a sackable offence! We were privileged to be able to see such an item on a first hand basis.
We had chartered engineer, Shane Colclough in to do a presentation on trains for us. It was an extremely informative day. Here are some images from the presentation.
